IRON MAN 70.3

Every summer, hundreds of athletes from around the world travel to Salzburgerland in Austria to compete in the Ironman 70.3. Consisting of a 1.9km open water swim in Lake Zell; a 90km cycle through the mountainous valleys, and then topped of with a whopping 21.1km run - it's a triathlon that's not for the faint hearted. No wonder the athletes have calves of steal, guns like Mike Tyson, and stamina that surely belongs in the animal kingdom. This people mean business.

The Landhaus Bergner Alms in a prime location to watch the race, with a stretch of the 90 km bike section passing straight past our front door. Athlete after athlete shoots past, barely working up a sweat. Absolute machines! Whilst we're on the side-line with home made pom poms maniacally cheering them on in any language we can think of. "Hop hop!"; "Jiayóu!", "Keep it up!". So international is the audience, you have to cover all bases.

Every year we watch the hundreds of athletes in tip top performance battle it out for a spot on the podium. And every year we say to each other, "we should definitely compete next year". So you never know, perhaps one year you'll see a post where we decide to give it a shot and work up a sweat competing in the Iron Man race, instead of working up a sweat competing for the last beer. One year...one year!
