Hello autumn - what a beauty! Pumpkins, electric colours and spiced lattes galore...YES PLEASE.
We can guarantee that the colours of autumn in Austria will make your jaw drop, and gasp 'Is this even reaaaaal?' (We can assure you, it IS!).
Here are a few of our top tips to help you make the most out of your autumnal getaway in the holiday region of Zell am See and Kaprun.
We're also offering a free night's stay at the chalet this October or November, when you book 4 nights or more. Find out more below!
Top Tip 1 - Hike among the autumnal trees:
Layer up and hit the hiking trails!
The days are often relatively mild in the valley, the light has a golden haze, and the mountain tops are graced by a dusting of snow. Most of the hiking routes are still accessible too, and the trails are so unbelievably quiet. Pretty perfect hiking conditions! One of our favourite hikes to do in autumn is a loop on the mountain behind the chalet, which offers panoramic views of the Hohe Tauern National Park, as well as a jaw dropping outlook over Lake Zell.
For more information on some of our other favourite hiking routes, take a look at the hiking section on our website.
Top Tip 2 - Ski on the Kitzsteinhorn glacier:
The ski season on the Kitzsteinhorn glacier, which is just a short drive from the chalet, tends to open in October. It's the perfect opportunity for you to get in some early season turns. Check out more information on skiing in the area here.
For more information on when the lifts and slopes will open, take a look at the Kitzsteinhorn website.
Top Tip 3 - Relax in a thermal spa:
There is something just so relaxing about swimming in an outdoor thermal pool whilst it's a bit chilly. If this is something you've never done before, you just have to try it - it's incredible! There are loads of thermal spas in the area to try. These are some of the best ones in the area that you should have on your bucket list:
Tauern Spa Kaprun: The SPA Water World consists of a whopping 11 pools, including a 25m sport pool, a saltwater pool, an indoor aqua world, and a mountain panorama pool. There is also a SPA Sauna World, which offers 10 different types of saunas. Perfect to warm up in on a cooler day.
Alpentherme Gastein: The Alpentherme in Gastein has a mix of indoor and outdoor pools, saunas and whirlpools, as well as an area just for woman, and a kid's section too.
Erlebnis-Therme Amadé: This thermal spa is open 365 days a year. There are plenty of indoor and outdoor pools to keep you and the family entertained on a rainy day, as well as saunas, cafes and restaurants.
Top Tip 4 - Start to get in the festive spirit:
To top it off, towards the end of November, everywhere starts to get ready for the upcoming festive season! Chalets start to scatter themselves with festive decorations, and Christmas lights are strung in village centres. Many Christmas markets even kick off in November too! Take a look below at some of the local Christmas markets that start in November:
Zell am See center's Christmas market: Located in Zell am See's old town next to the historic church, it's a beautiful setting to start getting into the festive spirit.
Zell am See's Star Advent: Situated next to Lake Zell, the Zell am See Star Advent Christmas market offers a stunning backdrop to tuck into a mug of Glühwein and some festive treats.
Salzburg Christmas markets start on the 23rd of November, including the market in Salzburg's centre, the Christmas marktet in Hellbrun Palace, and the market on Mirabell Palace.
